Context
Paste inserts clipboard content at the active cursor or selection. The destination decides how text styles, cell values, formulas or files are interpreted. Terminal pasting deserves special care because multiline content can contain executable commands; read it before confirming execution.
An app can offer several paste modes. Check the destination's Edit menu if you need to retain formulas, paste values, or match the surrounding style.
Use the binding for your application and platform. Custom keymaps, keyboard layouts and intercepted system keys can change the behavior you observe.
Practical checks
- Place the cursor in the intended destination first.
- Use the separate plain-text paste action when styles are unwanted.
- Inspect multiline shell commands before executing pasted text.
