- Pin tabs for quick access: Right-click a tab and choose 'Pin' to make it smaller and keep it at the left side. Use Ctrl+1 to jump to it instantly.
- Use Ctrl+Shift+T to recover closed tabs: Accidentally closed a tab? Press Ctrl+Shift+T repeatedly to reopen multiple closed tabs in order.
- Drag URLs from the address bar: Click and drag the lock icon or URL from the address bar to create a desktop shortcut or bookmark with a single gesture.

- What are the Mac versions of Chrome shortcuts?
- Swap Ctrl for Cmd throughout, with one notable exception: hard reload is Cmd + Shift + R, and DevTools is Cmd + Option + I rather than F12.
- Can I customize Chrome's keyboard shortcuts?
- Chrome itself only allows custom shortcuts for extensions (chrome://extensions/shortcuts). Native Chrome shortcuts can't be rebound without third-party extensions.
- Why does Ctrl + W sometimes close my whole Chrome window?
- If only one tab is open, closing the tab closes the window. Ctrl + Shift + T brings it back — contents, history, and all.
The ten Chrome shortcuts worth actual muscle memory
Browsers are where most people spend most of their screen time, which makes these the highest-leverage shortcuts on this entire site.
- Ctrl + T / Ctrl + W — new tab / close tab. The foundation.
- Ctrl + Shift + T — reopen the tab you just closed. Works repeatedly, walking back through your closed-tab history, and even restores whole windows. The single most gratitude-inducing shortcut in Chrome.
- Ctrl + L (or Alt + D, or F6) — jump to the address bar and select everything in it. Type a search or URL without touching the mouse.
- Ctrl + Tab / Ctrl + Shift + Tab — next / previous tab. Add Ctrl + 1–8 for jumping straight to a tab by position, and Ctrl + 9 for the last tab.
- Ctrl + F — find on page. Enter/Shift+Enter walk through matches.
- Ctrl + Shift + N — new Incognito window.
- Ctrl + Click — open a link in a background tab (Shift + Click for a new window). Middle-click does the same thing.
- Ctrl + Shift + R — hard reload, bypassing cache. The "the site says it's updated but I'm seeing the old version" fix.
- Space / Shift + Space — scroll a full screen down / up. Genuinely faster than the scroll wheel for reading long pages.
- F12 — Developer Tools, even if you only ever use it to inspect an element or test a page on mobile widths (Ctrl + Shift + M once DevTools is open).
Tab overload? Chrome has answers built in
If you live at 40+ tabs, three features tame it, all keyboard-reachable. Ctrl + Shift + A opens tab search — fuzzy-find any open (or recently closed) tab by title, which beats squinting at favicon slivers. Tab groups (right-click a tab → Add to group) collapse clusters of related tabs into a single labeled chip. And pinning (right-click → Pin) shrinks always-open tabs like email so they can't be closed by a stray Ctrl+W.
