Context
Save writes changes to the current document or file. An untitled document may ask for a name and location. Cloud editors can save automatically, while a browser's Save command may save the webpage rather than a document inside it. Watch the application's save indicator.
Use the binding for your application and platform. Custom keymaps, keyboard layouts and intercepted system keys can change the behavior you observe.
Practical checks
- Confirm the file name and location on the first save.
- Use Save As when you need a separate copy.
- Wait for the application's saved or synced confirmation before closing.
