Context
Cut removes a selected item and places it on the clipboard so it can be moved elsewhere. Support differs between editable text, spreadsheet cells and file managers. Do not assume that a text-cut command moves files in Finder. Clipboard replacement can also make a previously cut selection harder to recover.
Use the binding for your application and platform. Custom keymaps, keyboard layouts and intercepted system keys can change the behavior you observe.
Practical checks
- Select the intended text or object first.
- Paste into the destination before replacing clipboard content.
- Use the file manager's documented Move command for files.
