What does Ctrl+X do?
On ChromeOS, Ctrl+X cuts the selection to the clipboard. Use it when you want to cut in that application; other apps may assign the same keys differently.

Context
Cutting a selection is not every file manager's Move command. In documented Windows text editing, Cut moves the selected content to the clipboard. Other applications can cut cells, objects or whole lines. Select the intended material and read the app-specific context before using the keys.
Use the binding for your application and platform. Custom keymaps, keyboard layouts and intercepted system keys can change the behavior you observe.
Practical checks
- Focus the application whose recorded action you intend to use.
- Check whether a custom keymap, keyboard language, browser extension or remote session intercepts these keys.
- Consult the application's shortcut settings and source links before choosing a platform equivalent.
